Terms of Service — familytree.chat

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using familytree.chat ("the Service"), operated by Ephemera Research LLC ("we," "our," or "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

familytree.chat allows you to upload GEDCOM genealogy files and interact with an AI assistant to explore your family history. The Service uses Claude (by Anthropic) to process your queries.

3. User Accounts

You must create an account to use most features of the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

4. User Content

You retain ownership of any GEDCOM files and other content you upload ("User Content"). By uploading User Content, you grant us a limited license to store and process it solely to provide the Service to you.

You represent that you have the right to upload your User Content and that it does not violate any third-party rights.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
Upload content that violates the privacy or rights of living individuals
Attempt to reverse-engineer or circumvent any security measures
Use the Service to generate or distribute spam

6. Subscriptions and Billing

Paid plans are billed monthly. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the renewal date. Refunds are not provided for partial billing periods. We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days notice.

7. AI-Generated Content

Responses generated by the AI assistant are provided for informational purposes only and may contain errors or inaccuracies. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy of AI-generated genealogical information.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ephemera Research LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time from the Account page.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
