Ephemera Research LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates familytree.chat. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.

2. Information We Collect

• Account information: Email address and profile details via Clerk authentication.
• GEDCOM files: Family tree data you upload. This is stored securely in Cloudflare R2 object storage.
• Chat messages:Your questions and the AI's responses, stored in our database.
• Usage data: Message counts, tree counts, and subscription information for billing purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• To process your AI chat queries (your tree data is sent to Anthropic's Claude API)
• To manage your subscription and process payments via Stripe
• To authenticate your identity via Clerk
• To enforce our Terms of Service

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate familytree.chat:

• Anthropic (Claude):Your tree data and chat messages are sent to Anthropic to generate responses. Anthropic's Privacy Policy applies.
• Clerk: Handles authentication. See Clerk's Privacy Policy.
• Stripe: Handles payment processing. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• Cloudflare R2: Stores uploaded GEDCOM files. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
• Neon (PostgreSQL): Stores chat history and account data.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share your data only as described in Section 4 (with service providers necessary to operate the Service) or as required by law.

If you share your tree with other users via a share link, those users can chat with your tree data.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data as long as your account is active. You can delete individual trees from your Account page. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at hello@ephemerasearch.com.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted storage, secure authentication via Clerk, and HTTPS. No system is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

familytree.chat is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email or a notice on the Service.
